- The study is a continuation of the Baltimore Regional Rail Plan,
a 40-year plan for developing a complete and integrated rail network
for the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. The Green Line was
originally envisioned as an extension of the existing Baltimore Metro.
The Green Line was designed to connect areas in the northeast part of
Baltimore to downtown and other parts of the region with a high quality
transit option to the bus and the private automobile.
- When the Regional Rail Plan was adopted in 2002, State legislators
from Baltimore City and Baltimore County agreed that there were two
priority projects that should be advanced to begin implementing the
plan: the Red Line and the first segment of the Green Line, from Johns
Hopkins to Morgan State University. It is this segment of the Green
Line we will be looking at as part of this study.
